This will be an
intense,
fast-paced,
advaned-level marbling workshop
with Swedish master Lotta Olsson of
Palm Fine Arts
Educational Center for Decorative Painting.
The first day, Jun 4, Wed, will be 10 hrs of class time with two 30-min breaks.
Lunch and dinner will be provided.
The second day, Jun 5, Thurs, will be 6 hrs of class time with one 30-min break. Lunch will be provided.
Students will create 6 samples - 4 marbles, 1 onyx, and 1 gemstone:
- Mediterranean or Sea Green marble
- Portor marble
- Swedish Green marble
- Grey Breccia marble
- Green Onyx
- Lapis Lazuli gemstone
The instructor will begin with a short lecture on the historical background,
geology, specific characteristics, and composition of the stones to be created.
Water-based media will be used
including powder pigments and
acrylics.
New Size for Sample Boards is 18x12", not 18x24.
Students will receive
- Color photos of each stone
- Written instructions
- Styrene boards approx. 18"x12" (pre-prepped by students)
- Metal leaf, gold color
- Paint and Powders
- Glaze by Golden Artist Colors
- Special rubber tool
- High gloss varnish by Golden

Board
Prep Instructions
Six styrene boards approx 18"x12" will be provided. Students can pick them up
at regularly-scheduled meetings or by special arrangement.
Base coat each with 2 coats of water-based paint,
egg shell finish::
- 1 board - black base coat (for Portor marble)
- 1 board - very light grey base coat (white plus black or green umber colorant)
:for Swedish green marble)
- 4 boards - white base coat (for Grey Breccia, Lapis Lazuli, Green Onyx, and
Mediterranean Green)
Supply List
Please note that oversized equipment containers, such as
large bins on wheels, cannot be accommodated at the student's seat. Please
have at your seat only those supplies needed for this class. The
oversized containers must be stored in the student's car. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Eeach
student's cooperation will provide an excellent experience for all of us.
- Palettes/paper platestes/paper plateslettes/paper plates
- Small bucket of water
- Ssmall container
or jar for glaze
- Natural sea sponge
- Small square or rectangular piece of
cut synthetic sponge
- Cotton rag
- Badger brush
- Flat acrylic brushes, couple of
different sizes
- Pointed acrylic brushes--preferably
with long handles--couple of different sizes
- Couple of orginary paint brushes
(whatever you use for applying base coat and glaze)
- Bristle brushes--long handles--couple
of different sizes (not too small)
- Masking tape
